Pfizer Primary Series & Booster Doses Available at Spring Creek Pediatrics

Now that the CDC has reviewed the evidence and made suggestions about boosters, we are happy to announce that we can offer the Pfizer vaccine to those eligible for the primary series and for those eligible for a booster dose.

Individuals 12 years of age and up are eligible for the primary Pfizer 2 dose series.

A booster dose of Pfizer can be given to the following patients:

Individuals 18 years of age and older who have risk factors for significant COVID infection can receive a Pfizer booster 6 months plus 2 weeks after the 2nd Pfizer dose or the 2nd Moderna dose of their primary COVID vaccine series.

Individuals 18 years of age and older who work in a high risk setting for contracting COVID (long-term care facilities, healthcare settings, essential workers who are exposed to the public) can receive a Pfizer booster 6 months plus 2 weeks after the 2nd Pfizer dose or the 2nd Moderna dose of their primary COVID vaccine series.

Anyone 18 years of age or older who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine can receive an mRNA vaccine like Pfizer as long as it’s been 2 months since the original Johnson & Johnson vaccination.

We are offering appointments for the Pfizer COVID vaccines on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Please call if you would like to make an appointment. Please bring your vaccination card with you to your appointment.

COVID and FEVER

This most recent COVID surge has been associated with higher fevers in some cases. We offer the following advice about fever.

1. Fever is a reflection of the immune system doing it's job.

2. Fevers of 103-104 are not uncommon in viral illnesses. In some cases, fever can be as high as 105 or 106.

3. Your body will not let a fever go high enough to cause any permanent damage.

4. You do not have to treat every fever. If your child is comfortable, drinking, and playing, it's acceptable to not give fever medications. If your child has a history of seizures with fevers, we do recommend treating regularly.

5. A lukewarm bath can help bring a fever down.

6. Treating a fever doesn't guarantee that the temperature will return to normal. However, you should verify that you are giving the correct dose based on your child's weight. Commonly parents undermedicate their children when it comes to fever.

7. If you are alternating an acetaminophen product with an ibuprofen product, wait 3-4 hrs between doses.
