Change in HPV Recommendations

Great news! If your child starts their HPV vaccine series prior to their 15th birthday, they only have to have a 2-dose series. If your teenager starts the HPV vaccines after their 15th birthday, they will need 3 doses for protection.

Vaping Not Proven to Be Safe

There are no long-term studies to tell us that vaping is safe. Depending on the delivery mechanism, unknown amounts of heavy metals like lead, chromium, manganese, and nickel could be introduced into the body. Toxic amounts are possible. Other chemicals can be released, like acrolein, acrylamide, acrylonitrile, crotonaldehyde and propylene oxide, which are known to cause cancer. Batteries can explode. There are reports of "smoker's" cough and open sores that won't heal.

Summer Physicals and Vaccine Schedule Changes

Beat the summer rush and schedule your child's annual physical today!

There are recommended vaccines for adolescents. The Gardasil vaccine that helps prevent genital warts and cervical cancer can now be given as a 2-dose series for those adolescents under 15 years of age. Teenagers 15 years and up will still need the 3-dose schedule for protection.

We also have Trumenba which is a vaccine to prevent meningitis. This helps prevent strain B meningitis that is not in the current Menactra vaccine. We are recommending this vaccine after the 16th birthday to prevent a very contagious and serious illness.

Call if you have questions.

New Vaccines!

We have the new version of Gardasil that covers 9 strains of Human Papillomavirus instead of 4! This will provide broader coverage against genital warts and cancer. This vaccine can be given to females from 11 to 26 years old and males 11 to 21 years old. We also have Trumenba which is a vaccine to prevent meningitis. This helps prevent strain B meningitis that is not in the current Menactra vaccine. We are recommending this vaccine after the 16th birthday to prevent a very contagious and serious illness. ALERT!

If you use any of the concentrated laundry detergent "pods," please keep them up high and out of reach of children.  They have been associated with poisonings and even deaths.  The chemicals inside can cause eye irritation.  They can cause mild to severe upset stomach with vomiting, drowsiness, wheezing, gasping, and respiratory failure if ingested or inhaled.
